GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2848 TO BE ANSWERED ON 05.08.2026 RESTORATION OF TRAINS IN ANDHRA PRADESH 2848. SHRI APPALANAIDU KALISETTI: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) the details of the list of trains that were cancelled during the COVID-19 period including their route, frequency and type of service in Andhra Pradesh; (b) the details of the current status of each cancelled train indicating whether it has been restored/partially restored/ to be reinstated, including the reasons for any delay; (c) the details of the estimated number of passengers affected due to non- restoration of these trains including daily and annual ridership per route; (d) whether any proposals or requests have been received for restoration of these trains and if so, the details thereof including the current status of such proposals; (e) the details of the alternative arrangements, if any, provided to passengers during the period of non-restoration; and (f) the details of the plan and tentative timeline to restore all COVID- cancelled trains in Andhra Pradesh particularly those serving major towns, district headquarters and key intra-State connectivity routes? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (f) During 2020-21, Indian Railways (IR) undertook the exercise of rationalization of the time table in a scientific manner to provide for better passenger safety by creating maintenance corridor blocks, speeding up of § Page 1 of 5trains, etc. The exercise involved rationalisation of train services. Presently, all train services are being operated as per rationalized timetable. As the railway network straddles across State boundaries, trains are introduced as per network requirement, across such boundaries. However, in its constant endeavour to improve connectivity for the passenger convenience, IR have introduced 37 pairs of trains serving the stations located in the State of Andhra Pradesh, post covid. Presently, 81 Pairs of Vande Bharat Express [Chair Car], 01 pairs of Vande Bharat Express [Sleeper] & 36 pairs of Amrit Bharat Express are being operated over the Indian Railways network, of which 08 Pairs of Vande Bharat Express [Chair Car] and 12 pairs of Amrit Bharat Express are catering to the needs of passengers of stations located in the State of Andhra Pradesh. Besides, introduction of new train services, which is an on-going process, depends on various factors which include- ● Capacity of that section ● Availability of path ● Availability of required rolling stock ● Availability of matching infrastructure for rolling stock ● Maintenance requirement of railway tracks and other assets. ● Occupancy and the traffic requirement of the section. ***** Page 5 of 5
