GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 3926 ANSWERED ON 27.03.2026 RESURVEY AND REVERIFICATION OF RAILWAY LAND 3926 DR. AJEET MADHAVRAO GOPCHADE: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) whether Government proposes to undertake a division-wise resurvey and re-verification of railway land at each station and along railway tracks, in coordination with State Governments, to reconfirm revenue titles, boundaries, and land records of Indian Railways; (b) the concrete steps taken division-wise, in coordination with State Governments and district administrations, to identify, prevent, and remove illegal encroachments from railway land; and (c) whether Government has considered establishing dedicated, division-level railway land management and monitoring wings to regularly oversee land records, encroachments, disputes, and protection, if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (c): Regular inspections, demarcations and periodical verification of the railway land boundaries are carried out by railway administration and accordingly land records are updated. Indian Railway works closely with state revenue authorities to ensure continuous verification and updation of land records wherever required. During the last five years, about 98.02 Ha of railway land has been reclaimed from encroachments. To protect vulnerable locations to prevent encroachments, more than 3,400 Km of Boundary Wall has also been built in the last 5 years. The vacant railway land is utilized for infrastructural development viz. Multi Tracking, Railway Workshops, New Passenger Terminals, Cargo Terminals, etc., as per operational needs. Land, which is not immediately required by Railways, is entrusted to Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) for commercial utilisation. ***** §
