(a)whether it isa factthat manyIndianstudents pursuing MBBS inNepal have returnedto India due torecentpolitical coupinthat countryandif so, the detailsof students affectedand returnedtoIndia thereof;
(b) whether such Indianstudents who were pursuing MBBS course inNepal have been recognised byboththe National Medical Commission (NMC) of India andthe WorldHealth Organization (WHO) andif so, the detailsthereof;
(c)whether the Government hasissued anyadvisory tothe students seeking admission in MBBS Course inNepal andif so, the details thereof; and
(d) whether anyactionhasbeentaken toprotectandensure completionof the MBBS course bythese students, if so, the detailsthereof andif not,the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTEROFSTATE IN THE MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SMT. ANUPRIYAPATEL)
(a) to (d): The National Medical Commission (NMC) is an apex statutory body, constituted by an act of Parliament, to regulate and oversee medical education in the country. As per Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate (FMGL) Regulations framed by the NMC, Foreign Medical Graduates (FMGs) are required to fulfil specific mandatory conditions while pursuing their medical education abroad. These include requirements related to minimum course duration, compulsory internship, andotheressential academicandtrainingcriteria.
The NMC has also issued several advisories and alerts for students aspiring to obtain medical qualifications from foreign medical institutions and subsequently practice allopathy in India wherein students are advised to ensure that all conditions prescribed in the Foreign Medical Graduate Licentiate Regulationsare fullysatisfied before seeking admission.
