GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF TOURISM LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.3647 ANSWERED ON 10.08.2026 REVIVAL OF TOURISM INFRASTRUCTURE IN KADMAT 3647. SHRI MUHAMMED HAMDULLAH SAYEED: Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware that existing tourism infrastructure, including executive huts and honeymoon resorts at Kadmat Island, is currently lying vacant and left unattended; (b) whether the Government has any concrete plans to revive and operationalize both cruise tourism and staying tourism at Kadmat by leveraging these pre-existing facilities; and (c) the details of steps taken/being taken to promote Kadmat’s vast lagoon and beach assets to attract international and domestic eco-tourism? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (c): Development and promotion of tourism including destinations of Lakshadweep is primarily undertaken by the concerned State Government (SG)/UT Administration (UTA). However, Ministry of Tourism under its various schemes such as Swadesh Darshan (SD), Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0), Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD) – an initiative under Swadesh Darshan2.0 and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) etc. provides financial assistance for development of tourism infrastructure and experiences in the country, to the SGs/UTAs, on receipt of the project proposals from them including proposal of development of lesser known destinations, in synergy with the scheme guidelines, Government directions, availability of funds, inter-se priority etc. Operation & Management (O&M) of the assets created is also the responsibility of the concerned State Government (SG)/UT Administration (UTA).As informed by UT of Lakshwadeep Administration, the honeymoon resort is included in the Kadmat Eco-Tourism project in PPP mode by M/s IHCL (Indian Hotel Companies Ltd). Ministry of Tourism promotes India as a holistic tourism destination. Ministry also promotes various tourism destinations including those in Lakshwadeep through various medium including social media, websites and participation in fairs and exhibitions etc. ******
