SHRI PUTTA MAHESH KUMAR: Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS सड़क परिवहन औि िाजमार् ग मंत्री be pleased to state: (a) whether the Government is aware that on an average at least one road accident is reported daily on National Highway-16 between Gannavaram and Nallajerla in Andhra Pradesh; (b) whether it is a fact that the said stretch of National Highway-16 is in poor and uneven condition with bumps and irregularities causing frequent mishaps and if so, the details thereof; (c) the details regarding the total number of accidents, fatalities and valuation of damage caused by accidents during the last five years across Andhra Pradesh especially on National Highway-16 between Gannavaram and Nallajerla in Eluru district; (d) the reasons for the delay in maintenance or repair work on this road; (e) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to ensure smooth and safe passage for commuters on this route; and (f) the measures being undertaken to prevent accidents on this particular stretch of National Highway-16? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS (SHRI NITIN JAIRAM GADKARI)(a) and (c) Government in Ministry of Road Transport & Highways collects road accident data on a calendar year basis from States/Union Territories and publishes the data in the annual publication 'Road Accidents in India'. The details of number of accidents, fatalities and persons Injured on National Highways for the State of Andhra Pradesh during year 2018 to 2022, is given below: Calendar Year 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022 Nos. of Accidents 8122 7682 7167 8241 8650 Nos. of Fatalities 2929 3114 2858 3602 3793 Nos. of Persons Injured 8251 8651 7215 8323 8890 Further, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has reported total 1614 Nos. of accidents and 254 Nos. of fatalities on Gannavaram to Nallajerla section of NH-16 in last five years. (b), (d), (e) and (f) Gannavaram to Nallajerla stretch is being maintained in traffic worthy condition by Contractors/ Concessionaire as per provisions of Agreement. However, occasional settlements have been observed at the approaches of some structures which are rectified by the Concessionaire/ Contractors from time to time. In addition to this, regular site inspections are carried out for identifying the defects and rectification measures are taken up through Concessionaire/ Contractors. NHAI has also appointed Road Safety Consultants and necessary safety measures like sign boards, speed calming measures, road safety awareness programs etc., are done for reducing the accidents. Further, District Road Safety Committee meeting is held regularly for addressing the issues related to Road Safety in co-ordination with District Administration and police department. *****
