Sale of Shares of MSC
62. Shri K Radhakrishnan:
Will the Minister of FINANCE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government has taken note of the reported sale of shares to Mediterranean
Shipping Company (MSC);
(b) if so, whether the Government has examined the likely impact of this transaction on the
ownership, management, operational control and commercial interests of the Vizhinjam
International Seaport;
(c) whether any approval, clearance or scrutiny by the Government or regulatory authorities
was required in view of the strategic importance of Vizhinjam Port and, if so, the details
thereof;
(d) whether the Government has assessed the implications of the transaction on India's
maritime security, foreign investment policy, and control over critical port infrastructure; and
(e) the measures taken by the Government to safeguard national interest, ensure
transparency and protect the strategic and economic importance of Vizhinjam Port in light
of the said transaction?

(a) To (e) No proposal requiring consideration by the Government of India has been received
in connection with the reported sale of stake in the Vizhinjam International Seaport to
Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). The matter pertains to Vizhinjam International
Seaport, a non-major port under the administrative control of Government of Kerala.
