Parliament Question: Sanctioned Posts of IAS/IPS

SHRI AMRA RAM: Will the PRIME MINISTER be pleased to state: (a) the details of the number of posts of IAS and IPS sanctioned and filled in the country, State- wise; (b) the details of the number of posts filled and lying vacant out of the posts reserved for the persons belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes along with the percentage of reserved posts out of the said posts; (c) the details of the backlog of reserved posts along with the action plan devised to fill the said backlog posts; and (d) the time by which the said posts are likely to be filled? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES AND PENSIONS AND MINISTER OF STATE IN THE PRIME MINISTER’S OFFICE (DR. JITENDRA SINGH) (a): Relevant information in respect of sanctioned posts and number of officers currently in position is placed at Annexure-A. (b): Total number of persons belonging to SC, ST and OBC category appointed to IAS and IPS as Direct Recruit during the last five years (CSE 2020 to CSE 2024), is at Annexure-B. (c) and (d): The posts in respect of IAS are filled in accordance with the Reservation Guidelines issued by the Government. A total of 180 candidates are recruited to IAS per CSE year since 2012. Out of these 180 vacancies, 4% of the seats are reserved for the PwBD candidates. It is further submitted that the allocation of candidates through the Civil Services Examination (CSE), conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is an ongoing and continuous process. Vacancies are regularly assessed and all the advertised vacancies of IAS are filled taking into consideration the reservation norms. As of the present date, there are no backlog vacancies in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
