Sariska Tiger Reserve and Nahargarh Sanctuary
1211. SHRI HANUMAN BENIWAL:
Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Government is aware that the Ministry had sent a letter to the State Government of
Rajasthan on May 07, 2025, for necessary action regarding the issue of illegal activities occurring
around the Sariska Tiger Reserve and Nahargarh Sanctuary in Rajasthan;
(b) if so, the details of action taken report received so far from the State Government of Rajasthan
with reference to the said letter;
(c) whether the Government has taken any action based on the report of the State Government to stop
these illegal activities and also against the culprits and if so, the details thereof; and
(d) whether the Government proposes to conduct an independent inquiry or send a joint inspection
team keeping in view the seriousness of the matter and if so, the details thereof?

(a) A letter was sent to the State Government of Rajasthan vide F. No. WL-17/91/2025 WL dated
23.04.2025 (and not on May 07, 2025), for taking appropriate action regarding the said issue, which
mainly pertains to rationalisation of boundary of Sariska Tiger Reserve and demarcation of Nahargarh
Sanctuary as per notification.
(b), (c) & (d) As informed by the State, the process of rationalisation of boundary of Sariska Tiger
Reserve was initiated as per recommendations of the Central Empowered Committee of the Hon’ble
Supreme Court as per directions in the suo-moto case No. 1/2023, W.P. (Civil) No. 202/1995, T.N.
Godavarman vs. Union of India. The State Government constituted a 12-Member Committee which
has submitted its report on rationalisation of Critical Tiger Habitat and buffer of Sariska Tiger
Reserve. The same has been recommended by the State Board for Wildlife, National Tiger
Conservation Authority and National Board for Wildlife. As per directions of the Court, the draft
notification in this regard has been issued by the State Government and public hearing by District
Collectors of Alwar and Kotputli-Bahrod has been completed. The matter is sub-judice in the
Hon’ble Supreme Court.
In so far as Nahargarh Sanctuary is concerned, Hon’ble NGT, Bhopal constituted a team in OA
97/2022 on 16.12.2024 to demarcate and revise the map of the said Sanctuary in accordance with the
notification. The same has been challenged in the Hon’ble High Court in W.P. (Civil) No.
14254/2025. The matter is sub-judice.
