PATHAN YUSUF: Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:- (a) whether the Government has enumerated the number of homeless people in the country; (b) if so, the details thereof and the total number of urban and rural homeless people, gender and age- wise; (c) the details and the number of shelter homes created under the Scheme of Shelter for Urban Homeless (SUH) since its inception, year-wise; and (d) the details of the current occupancy of these shelter homes, gender and age- wise? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI TOKHAN SAHU) (a) & (b): As per Census of India 2011, a total of 17,73,040 people are houseless in the country, out of which 9,38,348 are in urban areas and 8,34,692 are in rural areas. Total population of male and female houseless people are 10,46,871 and 7,26,169 respectively.
