SEISMIC SURVEYS UNDER MISSION ANVESHAN IN KRISHNA-GODAVARI BASIN
2695. SHRI SANA SATHISH BABU:
Will the MINISTER OF PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS be pleased to state:
(a) the current status of seismic surveys undertaken under Mission Anveshan, basin-wise,
including coverage in the Krishna-Godavari Basin;
(b) whether Government proposes to include three-dimensional (3D) seismic surveys in
addition to the 2D surveys under the mission to enable more accurate geological
assessments;
(c) the steps being taken to strengthen hydrocarbon exploration in the State of Andhra
Pradesh using advanced survey technologies; and
(d) the anticipated economic benefits for the region from enhanced exploration?

(a): As on February 28, 2026, a total of 13,262.52 Line Kilometers (LKM) of 2- Dimensional (2D)
seismic data has been acquired under Mission Anveshan across various Indian basins as follows:

(b): Presently there is no proposal to undertake any 3-Dimensional (3D) seismic surveys under
Mission Anveshan.
(c): Active exploration has been ongoing in the Krishna-Godavari onland basin for four decades,
assessing about 255 Million Metric Tonne Oil Equivalent (MMTOE) of in-place hydrocarbons.
One exploration block is also awarded in the Cuddapah Basin where surveys have been conducted
for 317 LKM of 2D seismic data and 332 sq. km. of 3D seismic data. In the Cuddapah Basinalone, 1674 LKM of 2D seismic data has been additionally acquired under National Seismic
Programme.
(d): Enhanced Exploration and Production (E&P) activities in Andhra Pradesh have the potential
to attract investment and yield broad economic benefits. The prospective development of
upstream operations is anticipated to support job creation, infrastructure enhancements, and
growth across ancillary sectors. Furthermore, any potential hydrocarbon discoveries in the
Krishna-Godavari (KG) Basin could augment state revenues and contribute to domestic energy
production, thereby potentially reducing reliance on imported hydrocarbons.
