(a) the details and total number of schools selected so far under the PM SHRI Schools Scheme
across the country, especially in respect of UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Maharashtra;
(b) the details of the criteria adopted for the selection of schools under the said scheme;
(c) whether the Government proposes to include more schools from the UT of Dadra and
Nagar Haveli and the State of Maharashtra during the next phase of the said scheme; and
(d) the details of various steps being taken by the Government to ensure quality infrastructure,
digital access and skill based education in the said schools, especially in respect of UT of
Dadra and Nagar Haveli and the State of Maharashtra?

OF SCHOOLS UNDER PM SHRI SCHOOLS SCHEME”
(a) to (c): The centrally sponsored scheme of PM SHRI was approved by Cabinet on 7th
September, 2022. Subsequent to the approval, a total of 13,076 PM SHRI schools have been
selected from 33 States/UTs along with KVS/NVS/NCERT in seven phases of selection
process. Out of 13,076, a total of 7 PM SHRI schools have been selected from UT of Dadar &
Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu and a total of 860 PM SHRI schools have been selected from
State of Maharashtra. The State/UT/KVS/NVS/NCERT-wise details of number of schools
selected under the PM SHRI scheme is attached as Annexure I. Further, the list of PM SHRI
schools across the country may be accessed on the website of PM SHRI scheme at the link:

The criteria adopted by the Government for selecting the schools under the PM SHRI
scheme are provided under “Selection Methodology (Page no. 13-22)” of the PM SHRI

(d): To ensure quality infrastructure, PM SHRI scheme has a provision to equip PM SHRI
schools with science labs, ICT-enabled smart classrooms, library, furniture and playground.
Initiatives like introduction of LED lighting, creation of eco-friendly green schools with
herbal/medicinal gardens and composting facilities have been included. For quality assurance
and continuous monitoring, all PM SHRI schools are onboarded on School Quality Assessment
Framework (SQAF) for a four-stage upgradation.
PM SHRI scheme incorporates digital learning establishing ICT-enabled smart
classrooms and digital libraries along with digital educational content. Platforms like DIKSHA
are being utilized to provide a repository of high-quality digital learning resources, enabling
resource-sharing among educators and students. There is also a provision for the capacity-
building of teachers to effectively integrate digital pedagogy into their teaching practices,
ensuring enriched and engaging learning experiences for students.
The scheme, aligned with NEP 2020, also has a provision to integrate vocational
education into the mainstream curriculum at the secondary and senior secondary levels,
equipping students with essential skills for the future. There is a provision of setting up of
vocational and skill labs by providing tools & equipment, raw materials, trainers, in-service
and induction trainings for trainers, hands on training for students, linkages with sector skill
councils etc. Students gain hands-on experience through internships with
organisation/companies.
