Will the Minister of PETROLEUM AND NATURAL GAS be pleased to state:
(a) the number of CNG stations currently operational along with the estimated number of CNG
vehicles they cater in Hyderabad;
(b) whether the Government is aware of the acute shortage of Compressed Natural Gas(CNG)
stations in Hyderabad city and its suburban areas and if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the inadequacy of CNG stations is leading to long queues, operational delays for
public transport vehicles, autos and private CNG users and if so, the reaction of the Government
thereto; and
(d) whether the Government has any plans to increase the number of CNG fuel stations in
Hyderabad and its suburbs and if so, the details and timeline thereof?

REGARDING ‘SHORTAGE OF CNG STATIONS IN HYDERABAD’ ASKED BY SHRI
KONDA VISHWESHWAR REDDY.
(a) to (d) Government has taken multiple steps to increase share of Natural gas in primary energy
mix.This includes expansion of National Gas Grid Pipeline, expansion of City Gas Distribution
(CGD) network, setting up of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Terminals, allocation of domestic
gas to Compressed Natural Gas (Transport) / Piped Natural Gas (Domestic) CNG(T)/PNG(D) as
priority sector, allowing marketing and pricing freedom with a ceiling price to gas produced
from high pressure/high temperature areas, deep water & ultra-deep water and from coal seams,
Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) initiative to promote Bio-
CNG, etc.
In order to increase the reach of natural gas in the country, in addition to authorizing the natural
gas pipelines, Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has authorized CGD
entities to develop City Gas Distribution network in 307 geographical areas(GAs) covering
almost 100 % of the country’s mainland (excluding islands). As on 31.05.2025, various CGD
entities have provided 1.50 Crores domestic PNG connections and commissioned 8,083 CNG
Stations against the Minimum Work Programme (MWP) of about 12.6 Crores domestic PNG
connections and 18,336 CNG station across the country (to be achieved by 2034).This marks a
more than tenfold increase in the number of CNG stations in the country, which stood at 783 in
the year 2014.
In the state of Telangana, the PNGRB has authorised 9 GAs for development of CGD
infrastructure (including 1 GA spread over Telangana and Karnataka). The Hyderabad
Geographical Area has been authorized to M/s. Bhagyanagar Gas Limited (BGL) for the
development of City Gas Distribution network. As on 31.5.2025, the authorized entity has
established 83 CNG Stationsin the GA. These CNG stationscater to approximately 55,000–
60,000 CNG vehicles per day.The CNG sales in the Hyderabad Geographical Area have been
continuously increasing and hasincreased from ~1.12 lakh kg/day in FY 2023–24 to ~2.1 lakh
kg/day as of June 2025, reflecting more than 100% increase. Further to meet the growing
demandin the GA, BGL has informed that they are in the process of continuously identifying
new locations to cater to that demand.
