Parliament Question: Shortage of Doctors in AIIMS

Will the Minister of HEALTHANDFAMILYWELFARE be pleased tostate:

(a) the detailsof all “All India Institutes of Medical Sciences(AIIMS)” inthe country;

(b) whether the present faculty available for MBBS students in the newly established AIIMS isinsufficient;

(c) if so, the detailsof current student-faculty ratio,AIIMS-wise; and

(d) the steps taken bythe Government toaddress the problem of acute shortage of doctors due todelayinrecruitment process for such vacantposts? ANSWER THE MINISTER OFSTATE IN THE MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE (SHRIPRATAPRAO JADHAV)

(a)to(d): The details of sanctioned and filled posts of faculty along with the current MBBS student-faculty ratio in newly established All India Institute of Medical Sciences

(AIIMS) isplacedat Annexure.

Creationof posts andrecruitmentisa continuousprocess. In order toexpeditiously fill vacant sanctionedfacultypositions in variousInstitutes, following steps have beentaken:

(i) Standing Selection Committee has been constituted in each Institute as per the provision of AIIMS Act tofacilitate fillingupof vacantfacultypositions.

(ii) Provision has been made for engagement of retired faculty at the level of Professor, Additional Professor and Associate Professor, on contract basis, in new AIIMS, up to the age of 70 years from Institutes of National Importance (INIs) and Government Medical Colleges

(GMCs).

(iii) Visiting Faculty Scheme has been formulated to allow Professors, Additional Professors and Associate Professors, who are holding academic positions in Government Institutions within India or academic institutions outside India, to be the Visiting Faculty in newAIIMS for teachingpurposes.
