STATUSOFCONSTRUCTION OFAIIMS ATDARBHANGA

Will the Minister of HEALTHANDFAMILYWELFARE be pleased tostate:
(a) the current status of the proposed AIIMS at Darbhanga in the State of Bihar, the total
financial approvals accorded for the project so far and the expenditure incurred thereon
till date;
(b) whether it is a fact that the construction of AIIMS Darbhanga has not progressed as
envisaged and that despite the announcement by the Prime Minister that the project
would be completed within three years, the construction work has not commenced in
accordance with the prescribed timeline even after one and a half years, if so, the details
thereof; and
(c) whether the Government proposes to implement any time-bound action plan to expedite
the construction of AIIMS Darbhanga and complete it within the stipulated time-frame,
if so, the detailsof the timeline for itsconstruction andoperationalisation?
ANSWER
THE MINISTER OFSTATE IN THE MINISTRYOFHEALTH AND FAMILY
WELFARE

(a) to (c) Government approved setting up of new AIIMS at Darbhanga on 15.09.2020 at an
estimated cost of ₹ 1264 Crore. After a change in the initially allotted land, the Government
of Bihar handed over 187.44 acres of land in September, 2024. Based on detailed
geotechnical investigations, hydrological and other technical studies, the Master Plan has
beenapproved.
On 25.03.2026, Cabinet has approved the Revised Cost Estimate of AIIMS Darbhanga
amounting to ₹ 2006.07 Crore with 40 months as the timeline of completion from the date of
approvalof revised estimate.
Till date, an amount of ₹ 30.63 Crore has been utilized for various works relating to the
project.The progress of project is regularly reviewed at various levels with the Executing
Agencies, Government of Bihar andstakeholders concerned.
