STATUS OF NATIONAL HIGHWAY PROJECT IN VADAKARA
824. SHRI SHAFI PARAMBIL:
Will the Minister of ROAD TRANSPORT AND HIGHWAYS

be pleased to state:
(a) the present status of the National Highway development projects in
Kerala particularly the stretch passing through Vadakara;
(b) whether the Government has taken note of the delay in the
completion of the project, if so, the reasons therefor, including delays
due to land acquisition, environmental clearances, contractual issues
or other factors;
(c) the original and revised timelines for completion of the project
along with its present stage of execution;
(d) the funds sanctioned and utilised for the project so far; and
(e) the steps taken by the Government to expedite the work and the
expected date for completion of the highway project in the Vadakara
section?ANSWER

(a) & (c) The details of projects passing through Vadakara
constituency is annexed.
(b) The project progress has been affected due to adverse weather
conditions, numerous public protests, and public representative’s
demands for additional facilities such as underpasses, overpasses,
foot overbridges (FOBs), and viaducts. Further, there have been
instances of failure of Reinforced Soil (RS) Wall in approaches of
Flyovers and Vehicular Underpasses on NH-66. Based on a review of
the design & construction parameters and given the soil conditions in
Kerala along the coastal region, it has been decided to increase the
viaduct portion at identified locations and reduce the height of RS
Wall.
(d) The total sanctioned cost of the project in Rs. 3898 Crore and
expenditure is Rs. 2407 Crore.
(e) Government has established strong framework to review the
progress of all on-going National Highway work. This involves review
at multiple level right from the site to the Highest Authority in the
Government involving all stakeholders including the State
Government.
The Concessionaire has completed 31.2 km out of 40.8 km of project
length. 6 km of the project is affected by the additional structures
sanctioned under Change of Scope (CoS).
The revised date for completion of 6 km of project length in Vadakara
