STATUS OF PROJECTS IN MAHARASHTRA UNDER SBM-U
NO. 812 SHRI ARVIND GANPAT SAWANT:
Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the details of projects approved and implemented in Maharashtra
under the Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban (SBM-U), Urban Local
Body and component-wise;
(b) the details of funds approved, released and utilised in Mumbai
South Lok Sabha Constituency under the scheme since its
inception, year-wise;
(c) the number of individual household toilets, community toilets and
public toilets constructed in the said Lok Sabha Constituency under
the Mission;
(d) the percentage of households covered under door-to-door waste
collection, source segregation and scientific waste disposal in the
Urban Local Bodies of the said constituency;
(e) whether any legacy waste dump sites have been identified in the
Urban Local Bodies of Mumbai South and if so, the details thereof
along with the amount of funds allocated and utilised for the same;
and
(f) the details of capacity-building initiatives undertaken in Mumbai
South Lok Sabha Constituency under the said Mission?
ANSWER

MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS
(SHRI TOKHAN SAHU)
(a) & (b): Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban (SBM-U) is being implemented
uniformly in urban areas of all States/UTs including Maharashtra, in
accordance with the objective of making urban areas Open
Defecation Free (ODF) and ensuring scientific processing of
Municipal Solid Waste (MSW).

Under SBM-U 2.0, funds are released by Government of India to the
States/UTs on the basis of action plan prepared by Urban Local Bodies
(ULBs) and duly approved by State Level Technical Committee (SLTC).
Constituency-wise details of financial assistance provided is not
maintained at Ministry level.
Further, funds under SBM-U are allocated to States/UTs for entire mission
period and not on yearly basis. The details of year-wise funds released to
State of Maharashtra under SBM-U and SBM-U 2.0 are at Annexure.
Under Toilet Construction component of SBM-U 2.0, Action plans have
been approved for construction of 1,88,334 Individual Household Latrines
seats (IHHLs), 3,238 seats of public toilets, 16,905 seats of community
toilets, 4,385 seats of aspirational toilets and 6,830 urinals with central
share of ₹ 163.80 Cr.
Under Solid Waste Management Component, Action plans have been
approved for remediation of 516.74 lakh Metric tonne of legacy waste,
waste to composting plants of 5396.04 tonnes per day (TPD), bio-
methanation plants of 837 TPD, Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) of
4606 TPD, Waste to Electricity plants of 700 TPD, Sanitary Landfill (SLF) of
1635.17 TPD, Transfer Station of 4536.06 TPD, Construction and Demolition
(C&D) plant of 2935 TPD and 100 mechanical road sweepers with central
share of ₹ 1331.18 Cr.
Under Used Water Management component, Action plans have been
approved for setting up of Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) of 1349.3
million litres per day (MLD), 9409.03 kms of Interception & Diversion (I&D)
network and 235 CESS pool Tankers/Desludging Machines with central
share of ₹ 1549.50 Cr.
Details of all the projects under SBM-U 2.0 reported by State of
Maharashtra are available at SBM-U 2.0, MoHUA portal

(c): For the State of Maharashtra, 7,24,396 seats of Individual Household
Latrines (IHHLs) have been constructed against mission target of 6,29,819
seats of IHHLs and 1,66,465 seats of Community Toilets/Public Toilets
(CT/PTs) seats have been constructed against the mission target of 59,706
seats of CTs/PTs under SBM-U and SBM-U 2.0. The ULB-wise details
regarding toilet construction are not centrally maintained at Ministry level.

(d) & (e): As reported by States/UTs on the Swachhattam portal, ULB-wise
details on the percentage of households covered under door-to-door waste
collection, source segregation, and scientific waste disposal, along with
details of legacy waste dump sites, including the quantity of waste
remediated and the area of land reclaimed, are available at the Swachh
Bharat Mission Progress portal: https://sbmurban.org/swachh-bharat-

(f): Under SBM-U 2.0, 3% of the mission funding is allocated for Capacity
Building (CB) and Knowledge Management. The CB initiatives include
engagement of knowledge partners, procurement of third-party vendors for
field assessments and certifications, development and maintenance of
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) initiatives, augmentation
of Human Resource (HR), Training, Peer-learning, exposure visits etc.
Under Capacity Building component of SBM-U 2.0, the State of Maharashtra
has been allocated to Rs. 224.70 Cr.
