Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) the number of cities and towns in Tamil Nadu covered under the Atal
Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) along with
the status of ongoing projects;
(b) the details of the funds sanctioned, released and utilised so far in Tamil
Nadu under AMRUT;
(c) the specific improvements in urban infrastructure and services achieved
in the cities of Tamil Nadu under the mission including water supply,
sewerage and urban transport; and
(d) the steps taken by the Government to address delays or challenges, if
any, faced in the implementation of AMRUT projects?

(a) & (b): Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) is
implementing Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation
(AMRUT), which was launched on 25 June 2015 in selected 500 cities
(now 485 cities including 15 merged cities) and towns across the country
including 28 cities/towns of Tamil Nadu. Under AMRUT, States/UTs are
empowered to select, appraise, prioritise and implement the projects
within the broad framework of Mission guidelines.
Under AMRUT, 445 projects have been taken up by the State with
an approved cost of ₹13,339.43 crore, which includes Central Assistance
(CA) of ₹4,756.68 crore. Against the committed CA for projects, ₹4,626.24
crore has been released against which Utilization Certificates (UCs) of
₹4,279.29 crore have been received.
As reported by the State on AMRUT portal, 433 projects worth
₹7,810.68 crore have been completed and 12 Projects worth ₹5,528.75
crores are at implementation stage. Total works worth ₹12,775.58 crore
have been physically completed.

(c): Under AMRUT Mission and in convergence with the State, 16.07 lakh
water tap connections (new/ serviced) provided; 25.20 lakh sewer
connections (new/ serviced) (including households covered through
Faecal Sludge and Septage Management-FSSM) provided; 2856.77
kilometers of sewer network and 6637.72 kilometers of water supply
network constructed; and 337.66 acre of green space area developed
under AMRUT. No project in Urban transport sector was taken up by the
State.
(d): AMRUT guidelines provides for formation of State High Powered
Steering Committee (SHPSC) headed by the Chief Secretary of the State,
to monitor and supervise implementation of the scheme at the State/ UT
level. State Level Technical Committee (SLTC) headed by the Secretary,
Urban Development & Housing Department provides technical support to
the SHPSC in monitoring and supervising the scheme at the State level.
Further, an Apex Committee constituted under the ambit of Mission
guidelines reviews and monitor the Mission periodically. For assessment
and monitoring of work done under AMRUT in the States/ UTs, there is a
provision of Independent Review and Monitoring Agencies (IRMAs). Also,
in order to fast-track the implementation of AMRUT, progress is
periodically reviewed & monitored through regular video conferences/
webinars/ workshops/ site-visits etc. by Ministry of Housing and Urban
Affairs (MoHUA) with the States/ Union Territories. There is a dedicated
AMRUT online portal for tracking the progress and monitoring of projects
provided by the States/ UTs.
