GANAPATHY RAJKUMAR P: Will the Minister of HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS be pleased to state: (a) the total number of sewage treatment plants set up and those out of these functioning in Tamil Nadu as on date under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT); (b) the total funds earmarked, released and spent on each sewage treatment plant, plant-wise; (c) whether the Government has released any fund for setting up Common Effluent Treatment Plants in Tamil Nadu and if so, the details thereof; and (d) the total number of such Common Effluent Treatment Plants set up in Tamil Nadu under AMRUT? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOUSING AND URBAN AFFAIRS (SHRI TOKHAN SAHU) (a) to (d): Sanitation is State subject; and setting up and management of Sewerage Treatment Plants (STP)/ Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETP) is the responsibility of the State Governments and concerned Urban Local Bodies (ULBs)/ Urban Development Authorities. Government of India supplements the efforts of the States through schematic interventions/ advisories. It provides financial and technical support to the States through various schemes/ Missions such as Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and AMRUT 2.0. Under AMRUT, States/ Union Territories (UTs) are empowered to select, appraise, prioritise and implement the projects. Maintenance of project after their completion is also the responsibility of State Governments/ ULBs. As reported by the State on AMRUT portal, 18 sewerage and septage management projects worth ₹5,670.8 crore have been grounded under AMRUT. Under AMRUT 289.97 Million Litre per Day (MLD) STP capacity have been developed and projects for development of 210.03 MLD STP capacity are at implementation stage.
