Shri Hanuman Beniwal: Will the Minister of YOUTH AFFAIRS AND SPORTS be pleased to state: (a) the details of the sports academies and universities being run in the country, State/UT-wise including Rajasthan; (b) the details of the number of the sports departments/centres being run in various universities and academies of the country including Rajasthan along with the details of the number of trainers and coaches working and students enrolled therein the sports university-wise/academy-wise; (c) the details of the expenditure incurred from the budget allocated by the Union Government and concerned State Government for the said universities/academies; (d) whether the Government proposes to establish a sports university in Rajasthan for utilising the sports talent by providing them with advanced training facilities; (e) if so, the intent of Government in this regard; and (f) if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF YOUTH AFFAIRS & SPORTS { DR. MANSUKH MANDAVIYA } (a) and (b) ‘Sports’ being a State subject, the responsibility of development of sports, including running of sports academies and universities, rests primarily with the respective State/Union Territory Governments. The Union Government only supplements their efforts by bridging critical gaps. The details of sports academies and universities across the country, which are under the jurisdiction of respective State/Union Territory Governments, are Page 1 of 3not maintained in this Ministry. However, National Sports University, Imphal in Manipur is the Sports University run by Central Government. National Sports University, Imphal is functioning with 4 Departments with sanctioned strength of 36 Staff members, including teaching, non-teaching and coaches/trainers staff. The University has intake capacity of 210 students in the academic year 2024-25 and actual number of students enrolled in the academic year 2024-25 is 131. State-wise details of students enrolled in the National Sports University are given at Annexure – I. Further, currently 306 Academies have been accredited under Khelo India Scheme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports as “Khelo India Accredited Academies”. State/UT-wise details of these Sports Academies, including in the State of Rajasthan, are available at https://dashboard.kheloindia.gov.in. The number of coaches and support staff are decided by the Academies themselves. At present, 718 Athletes (including Athletes from Rajasthan) are getting training in Khelo India Accredited Academies. State-wise details under the Khelo India Scheme may be seen at https://dashboard.kheloindia.gov.in. (c) Till date, an amount of ₹ 526.70 crore has been released to the National Sports University, Imphal by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Further, details of funds released for Khelo India Sports Academies across the country, are available at https://dashboard.kheloindia.gov.in. (d) to (f) There is no proposal under consideration in this Ministry to establish a sports university in Rajasthan. The National Sports University has been set up in 2018 at Imphal in Manipur through the National Sports University Act, 2018 to cater to students and athletes from all States/UTs of the country, including Rajasthan.
