Parliament Question: Strengthening CCTV surveillance and safety at Pune Railway Station

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2518 ANSWERED ON 13.03.2026 STRENGTHENING CCTV SURVEILLANCE AND SAFETY AT PUNE RAILWAY STATION 2518 DR. MEDHA VISHRAM KULKARNI: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) whether Government is aware of reports regarding limited CCTV surveillance at Pune Railway Station despite rising passenger security concerns; (b) the present number of functional CCTV cameras installed at major stations in Pune Division and whether augmentation has been approved; (c) the steps taken to deploy advanced surveillance, AI-based monitoring and integrated security systems at high-footfall stations; and (d) the timeline fixed for augmentation of CCTV infrastructure to ensure enhanced passenger security? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (d): Installation of CCTV systems at all crossing railway stations under Pune Division has been planned. Further,  CCTV installation has already been completed at 43 stations under the Division, with a total of 854 cameras commissioned so far.  The number of CCTV cameras under the existing Video Surveillance System at Pune Railway Station has been augmented from 75 to 160. With a view to strengthen the surveillance mechanism at sensitive railway stations across Indian Railways, installation of an Integrated Security System (ISS) has been planned. The ISS comprises:  Close Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance system  Access control system  Personal and baggage screening system  Bomb detection system Under the ISS initiative:  A total of 228 baggage scanners have been provided.  420 dogs have been deployed over different Zonal Railways for detection of explosives and tracking purposes. §76 railway stations across Indian Railways have been identified for advance preparedness and development of a well-coordinated strategy for crowd management, in view of high passenger footfall during peak hours. At these stations:  A large number of CCTV cameras will be installed.  New generation communication equipment such as Walkie-talkies, Announcement systems, Calling systems will also be provided.  War rooms, manned by officers of all departments, are also planned during crowd situations. Installation of CCTV system at all railway stations across Indian Railways, except halt stations, is a continuous and ongoing process. So far,  CCTV cameras have been installed at 1825 stations of Indian Railways.  The installed CCTV systems are equipped with AI-based video analytics features, such as intrusion detection, loitering detection and fallen person detection.
