Parliament Question: Strengthening of Infrastructure in Mumbai Port

SHRI BALYA MAMA SURESH GOPINATH MHATRE: Will the Minister of PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS be pleased to state: प(cid:419)न, पोत प(cid:464)रवहन और जलमाग (cid:91) म(cid:287)ं ी (a) the details of various projects undertaken in the Mumbai Port Authority in the last two years to strengthen the port infrastructure and to further the green port initiative of the country; and (b) the details of the cost of projects undertaken, year-wise ? ANSWER MINISTER OF PORTS, SHIPPING AND WATERWAYS (SHRI SARBANANDA SONOWAL) (a) & (b) The details of the projects undertaken by the Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA) during the last two years to strengthen port infrastructure are enclosed at Annexure-I. The green port initiatives undertaken by the MbPA are given below: (i) Renewable energy: A total of 1.4 MW rooftop solar capacity is operational. In addition, a 3 MW rooftop solar project on Indira Dock sheds is under implementation under the RESCO model. At present, about 57% of the Port's electricity requirement is met through renewable energy. (ii) Alternative marine fuels: Biofuel blending has been piloted in collaboration with BPCL. Green Tugs are being inducted under the Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP). Development of an LNG import and handling facility at Jawahar Dweep is under progress to facilitate cleaner marine fuel handling.(iv) Afforestation & ecology: Bamboo plantation and other plantation drives are being undertaken. Development of a Mangrove Park at Sewri has also been taken up to enhance green cover and support the coastal ecosystem. (v) Cleaner domestic fuel: Conversion from LPG to PNG is being undertaken across port residential and common-user connections.Annexure-1 The details of the projects undertaken during last two years Sr. Description of project undertaken in 2025-26 Total Cost of No. Project 1.
