GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF PLANNING LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 4246 TO BE ANSWERED ON 18.03.2026 SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS 4246. SHRI CAPTAIN BRIJESH CHOWTA: Will the Minister of PLANNING be pleased to state: (a) the rankings and composite scores of Karnataka under the NITI Aayog SDG India Index since 2020 along with available district-level disaggregation for Dakshina Kannada, year-wise; (b) the specific SDG goals and indicators where Karnataka has consistently performed below the national average along with the reasons identified in evaluation reports; (c) the funds allocated, released and utilised by the Centre and the State for SDG acceleration initiatives in Dakshina Kannada since 2020; (d) the details of projects or schemes implemented in the district aimed at improving performance on SDGs related to poverty alleviation, gender equality, health and climate action; and (e) the details of the number of capacity-building workshops, awareness campaigns and partnerships with civil society undertaken to promote SDG localisation at the Panchayat level? Page 1 of 5ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) OF THE MINISTRY OF STATISTICS & PROGRAMME IMPLEMENTATION; MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) OF THE MINISTRY OF PLANNING AND MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE (RAO INDERJIT SINGH) (a) The composite scores and rankings of Karnataka based on SDG India Index published by NITI Aayog are as follows: SDG India Index 2020-21 SDG India Index 2023-24 Composite 72 75 Score Rank 6 8 The Index assesses performance at the State and Union Territory level, and district-level disaggregation is not part of the SDG India Index framework. (b) As per SDG India Index 2023-24, composite score of Karnataka is 75 which is higher than the national average of 71. In SDG 15 (Life on Land), Karnataka scored 70 vis-a-vis national average of 75. The SDG India Index is intended as a tool to monitor progress, identify priority areas and encourage improvements across sectors while promoting cooperative and competitive federalism. Identification of reasons for variations in performance falls within the domain of the concerned Ministries/Departments of the Government of India and the respective State Governments/UTs Administrations. (c) & (d) As per information received from the Government of Karnataka, various schemes viz. Viksit Bharat- Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) (erstwhile Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS)), Jal Page 2 of 5Jeevan Mission, Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission, Samagra Shiksha Abhiyaan, Sanjeevini Community Investment Fund for SHGs etc are being implemented in Dakshin Kannda District. The details of fund, allocated scheme-wise, is as at Annexure. (e) Under the Revamped Rashtriya Gram Swaraj Abhiyan (RGSA), the Ministry of Panchayati Raj provides support for Capacity Building and Training (CB&T) of elected representatives, functionaries, and other stakeholders of Panchayats under various categories, such as general orientation and refresher training, thematic training, specialized training, and training on Panchayat Development Planning. These capacity-building initiatives have strengthened the ability of Panchayat representatives to undertake participatory planning, particularly in the preparation and implementation of Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs). Since the launch of the Revamped RGSA, 11,57,048 participants have been trained in the State of Karnataka.
