ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a) to (g): While development and promotion of tourism is primarily undertaken by the concerned State Government/UT Administration, the Ministry of Tourism through its various schemes provides financial assistance for development of tourism infrastructure and enhancement of tourism experiences in the country to the State Governments/UT Administrations/Central Agencies on receipt of project proposals from them in line with the scheme guidelines, government directions, availability of funds, inter-se priority etc. The Ministry launched its Swadesh Darshan scheme in 2014-15 and sanctioned 76 projects under identified thematic circuits for Rs.5290.33 Crore. This scheme was revamped as Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0) with the primary objective to develop sustainable destinations. The scheme focuses on implementation of sustainable and responsible tourism practices in various projects and initiatives and also encourages adoption of principles of sustainable tourism including environmental sustainability, socio-cultural sustainability and economic sustainability. Ministry has sanctioned 53 projects under SD2.0 for Rs.2208.31 Crore. Further, the Ministry with the idea to undertake holistic development of the destinations sanctioned 38 projects for Rs.697.94 Crore under ‘Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD), a sub-scheme of Swadesh Darshan 2.0 and idea of sustainability is also embedded in the scheme. The projects sanctioned under SD2.0 and CBDD are at implementation stage. While implementation, operation and management of these projects is undertaken by the concerned State Government/UT Administration, Ministry of Tourism regularly reviews the progress of the projects sanctioned under these schemes.In addition, the Ministry of Tourism under its ‘Assistance to Central Agencies for Tourism Infrastructure Development (ACATID)’ scheme provides financial assistance to the Central Agencies for development of tourism infrastructure at various locations.
