Parliament Question: Tourism Development Projects in Uttar Pradesh

SHRI CHHATRAPAL SINGH GANGWAR: Will the Minister of TOURISM be pleased to state: (a) the current status of tourism development projects under the Swadesh Darshan, PRASHAD and other Central schemes in Uttar Pradesh, particularly in Bareilly district; (b) the extent to which these projects have boosted tourism and local employment generation; and (c) whether any additional project is proposed by the Government for the conservation of historical and cultural heritage and development of tourism in Bareilly? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF TOURISM (SHRI GAJENDRA SINGH SHEKHAWAT) (a): The Ministry of Tourism, under its various schemes such as Swadesh Darshan (SD), Swadesh Darshan 2.0 (SD2.0), Challenge Based Destination Development (CBDD), Assistance to Central Agencies (ACA) and Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual, Heritage Augmentation Drive (PRASHAD) supplements the efforts of the State Governments (SGs) and Union Territory (UT) Administrations by providing financial assistance for the development of tourism related infrastructure and experiences across the country including the State of Uttar Pradesh. The Government of India under its ‘Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) – Development of Iconic Tourist Centres to Global Scale’ provides financial assistance with the primary objective to comprehensively develop iconic tourist centres in the country. The details of the projects sanctioned under these aforementioned schemes are annexed.(b): The Ministry of Tourism through its Central Sector Schemes has sanctioned various interventions such as tourist information centre, queue management complex, waiting halls, cloak room, widening of approach roads, CCTVs for pilgrim safety, foot-over bridges, parking, basic amenities such as toilets, dustbins, drinking water facilities and other site development works across the country for improving and upgrading overall tourist experience. The projects executed under the aforementioned scheme ensures development of tourism infrastructure and experiences in a holistic and sustainable manner with the objective of boosting tourism and local employment generation. (c): Currently, no proposal for the conservation of historical and cultural heritage and development of tourism in Bareilly is under consideration in the Ministry. However, receiving proposals from the State Governments and UT Administrations for financial assistance for tourism projects is a continuous process.
