Parliament Question: Transport subsidy/Logistics support to farmers of perishable commodities in Odisha

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE RAJYA SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 2419 TO BE ANSWERED ON 13/03/2026 TRANSPORT SUBSIDY/LOGISTICS SUPPORT TO FARMERS OF PERISHABLE COMMODITIES IN ODISHA 2419. SHRI NIRANJAN BISHI: Will the Minister of AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE be pleased to state: (a) whether any proposal exists to provide transport subsidy or logistics support to farmers of perishable commodities in remote areas of Odisha; and (b) if so, the details thereof, if not, the reasons therefor? ANSWER THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR AGRICULTURE AND FARMERS WELFARE (SHRI BHAGIRATH CHOUDHARY) (a) & (b): As informed by the Odisha State Agricultural Marketing Board (OSAMB), at present there is no proposal with the Board to provide transport subsidy or logistical support to farmers for marketing of perishable commodities such as fruits and vegetables in remote areas of the State. This is because perishable commodities such as fruits and vegetables have been de-notified from the schedule list of commodities under the Odisha Agricultural Produce Markets (OAPM) Act through a Gazette Notification issued by the Government of Odisha in 2017. Consequently, the marketing of these commodities is no longer regulated under the OAPM framework. However, in Odisha, there are 54 Principal Markets, 428 Sub-Markets, 191 GP Markets and 42 Krushak Bazaars at different Block/Taluk levels under 66 Regulated Market Committees (RMCs) to provide marketing infrastructure facilities to farmers. Additionally, reimbursement for transportation and storage cost of Tomato, Onion and Potato is provided to central nodal agencies & State designated agencies for storing and transporting them from producing state to consuming state under Market Intervention Scheme of PM-AASHA. Presently, no proposal of State of Odisha is pending under PM-AASHA. *****
