Parliament Question: Udaipur and Dungarpur Railway Station Redevelopment Projects

GOVERNMENT OF INDIA MINISTRY OF RAILWAYS LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 1754 TO BE ANSWERED ON 29.07.2026 UDAIPUR AND DUNGARPUR RAILWAY STATION REDEVELOPMENT PROJECTS †1754. SHRI RAJKUMAR ROAT: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) the current status of the redevelopment and modernisation works of Udaipur and Dungarpur Railway Stations including the sanctioned cost, date of commencement of work and targeted completion period of both the projects; (b) the details of the specific works currently in progress at the said railway stations including the percentage of work completed so far and the reasons for the relatively slow progress of these works; and (c) whether the Government proposes to take necessary steps to expedite these works at the said railway stations to ensure their completion within the scheduled timeframe and if so, the time by which it is likely to be completed? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (c): Ministry of Railways has identified Udaipur City and Dungarpur Railway Stations for redevelopment under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The status of these stations is given below: Udaipur City Station: The redevelopment of Udaipur City station has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 354 Crores.The master plan of Udaipur City station redevelopment envisages following works:  Provision of main entry station building (West side)  Provision of second entry station building (East side) § Page 1 of 6 Provision of 72 m wide air concourse  Provision of 6 m wide foot over bridge  Provision of platform shelter and improvement of platform surface  Provision of lifts and escalators  Improvement of circulating area and parking  4 m wide Skywalk for connecting foot over bridge (Ajmer end) to second entry station building The structural work of main station building and second entry station building has been completed. The works of finishes of main entry and second entry station buildings and air concourse have been taken up. Dungarpur Station:The redevelopment of Dungarpur station has been sanctioned at a cost of Rs. 18.43 Crores (approx.). The master plan of Dungarpur station redevelopment envisages following works:  Improvement of station building and porch  Improvement of platform shelter on PF 1&2  Improvement of PF surface  Improvement of amenities for Divyangjan  Provision of foot over bridge & lifts  Improvement of circulating area and parking The works for improvement of station building, porch, circulating area, parking, platform shelters, platform surfacing, toilet block, installation of coach indication board and signages have been completed. The work of foot over bridge and amenities for Divyangjanhas been taken up. Amrit Bharat Station Scheme envisages development of stations on a continuous basis with a long-term approach. It involves preparation of master plans and their implementation in phases to improve the stations of Indian Railways. The master planning, keeping in view the necessity of each station, includes:  Improvement of access to station and circulating areas Page 2 of 6 Integration of station with both sides of city  Improvement of station building  Improvement of waiting halls, toilets, sitting arrangement, water booths  Provision of wider foot over bridge/subway to commensurate with passenger traffic  Provision of lifts/escalators/ramps  Improvement of platform surface/ provision of platform shelter  Provision of kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’  Parking development  Amenities for Divyangjans  Better passenger information systems  Provision of air concourse, executive lounges, Multimodal integration, landscaping, etc. The scheme also envisages sustainable and environment friendly solutions, provision of ballastless tracks etc. as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centre at the station in the long term. So far, 1340 stations have been identified for development under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, out of which 85 stations including Udaipur City and Dungarpurrailway stations are located in Rajasthan. The work of lifts, escalators, through roof, finishing of front & rear side station building, improvement of platform shelters at platform no 2&3, overhead tank and underground tank etc. have also been taken up. Gandhi Nagar Jaipur Station: The works of main entry station building, second entry station building, two level basement, air concourse, through roof launching, provision of platform shelters, platform resurfacing and improvement of circulating area and utilities have been completed. The work of finishes has been taken up. Jaipur Station: The works of 6 m wide foot over bridge at dausa end, second entry side basement, approach road, structural work of main entry side basement, structural work of air concourse and 8m wide central foot over bridge connecting concourse have been completed. The work of 6m wide foot over bridge at Sikar end, structural work of main entry station building, foot over bridge along the track and roofing & flooring work of central foot over bridge have been taken up. Churu station: The works of new station building, improvement of platform shelter at platform no. 1 & 2, booking office, waiting room, retiring room, toilet, installation of coach indication board and signages have been completed. The work of lifts and 12 m wide foot over bridge has been taken up. Further, development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of stations on Indian Railways is a continuous and ongoing process and works Page 5 of 6in this regard are undertaken as per requirement, subject to inter-se priority and availability of funds. Development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of a station is carried out based on category of station/condition/traffic handled etc. Development / Upgradation of stations is complex in nature involving safety of passengers & trains and requires various statutory clearances such as fire clearance, heritage, tree cutting, airport clearance etc. The progress also gets affected due to brownfield related challenges such as shifting of utilities (involving water/sewage lines, optical fibre cables, gas pipelines, power/signal cables, etc.), infringements, operation of trains without hindering passenger movement, speed restrictions due to works carried out in close proximity of tracks and high voltage power lines, etc. and these factors affect the completion time. Indian Railways has a well established mechanism to monitor implementation of projects including their reviews, inspection, check for time and cost overruns, quality of works and audits. Monitoring of projects is done at various levels including through dedicated portal of Indian Railways named Indian Railway Project Sanction and Management (IRPSM). Works are carried out adhering to the standards and specifications laid down in various codes and manuals. Inspections/audits/checks are carried out from time to time by various agencies/officials/multi-disciplinary teams as per laid down instructions and actions for correction are taken immediately. The issues faced by the executing units are accordingly addressed. This is a continuous and ongoing process. ***** Page 6 of 6
