Parliament Question: Upgradation/Beautification of Railway Stations in Rajasthan

SMT SANJNA JATAV: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) the number of railway stations upgraded/beautified/being upgraded during the last three years, State-wise; (b) the amount allocated and spent for upgrading/beautification of railway stations, State/division-wise; (c) the details of the amount spent and the percentage of work completed so far at each station, division-wise; and (d) the steps taken/being taken by the Government to complete the pending works at stations of different States particularly Rajasthan within the stipulated period? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (d) Ministry of Railways has launched Amrit Bharat Station Scheme for development of Railway Stations covering 1337 Railway stations onIndian Railways including 85 stations in Rajasthan. Till now, phase–I works of 105 stations including 08 stations (Bundi, Deshnoke, Fatehpur Shekhawati, Gogameri, Govind Garh, Mandal Garh, Mandawar Mahwa Road and Rajgarh) in the state of Rajasthan have been completed under this scheme. The works at other stations have also been taken up at good pace and progress of some of the above stations is as given below: ● At Bharatpur station, the works of improvement of platform surfacing, platform shelter, waiting room and toilet have been completed. The works of improvement to circulating area, improvement of old station building and 12 m Foot Over Bridge have been taken up. ● At Bhawani Mandi station, the works of waiting room, platform surfacing, platform shelter, toilet, improvement of circulating area and improvement of old station building have been completed. Work of 12 m Foot Over Bridge has been taken up. ● At Gangapur City station, the works of construction of second entry, waiting room, platform surfacing, platform shelter, toilet,improvement to circulating area and improvement to old station building have been completed. Work of 12 m Foot Over Bridge has been taken up. ● At Hindaun City station, the works of construction of second entry, waiting room, platform surfacing, platform shelter, toilet, improvement to circulating area and improvement to old station building have been completed. Work of 12 m Foot Over Bridge has been taken up. ● At Shri Mahaveerji station, the works of improvement of platform surfacing and platform shelter have been completed. The works of construction of second entry, waiting room, toilet, improvement to circulating area, improvement of old station building and 12 m Foot Over Bridge have been taken up. Amrit Bharat Station Scheme envisages development of stations on a continuous basis with a long-term approach. It involves preparation of master plans and their implementation in phases to improve the amenities at the stations like improvement of station access, circulating areas, waiting halls, toilets, lift/escalators as necessary, platform surfacing and cover over platform, cleanliness, free Wi-Fi, kiosks for local products through schemes like ‘One Station One Product’, better passenger information systems, executive lounges, nominated spaces for business meetings, landscaping, etc. keeping in view the necessity at each station. The scheme also envisages improvement of building, integrating the station with both sides of the city, multimodal integration, amenities for Divyangjans, sustainable and environment friendly solutions, provision ofballastless tracks, etc. as per necessity, phasing and feasibility and creation of city centre at the station in the long term. Further development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of stations on Indian Railways is a continuous and ongoing process and works in this regard are undertaken as per requirement, subject to inter- se priority and availability of funds. The priority for development / redevelopment / upgradation / modernisation of stations is accorded to higher category of station over lower category of station while sanctioning and executing the works. Development / Upgradation / Modernization of stations including under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme is generally funded under Plan Head-53 ‘Customer Amenities’. The details of allocation of funds for development and maintenance of stations are maintained Zonal Railway-wise and not work-wise or station-wise or state-wise. The state of Rajasthan is covered under 05 (five) Railway zones, namely Northern Railway, North Central Railway, North Western Railway, Western Railway and West Central Railway. For these zones, allocation of ₹ 5,257 crore has been made for the financial year 2025-26 under Plan Head-53 and expenditure (up to June, 2025) of ₹ 1,024 crore has been incurred so far. Development / Upgradation of railway stations is complex in nature involving safety of passengers & trains and requires various statutory clearances such as fire clearance, heritage, tree cutting, airport clearance etc. The progress also gets affected due to brownfield related challenges such as shifting of utilities (involving water/sewage lines, optical fibre cables, gas pipe lines, power/signal cables, etc.), infringements, operation of trains without hindering passengermovement, speed restrictions due to works carried out in close proximity of tracks and high voltage power lines, etc. and these factors affect the completion time. Therefore, no time frame can be indicated at this stage. *****
