Vacancies in CPCB
74. SHRI S NIRANJAN REDDY:
Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT,FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to
state:
(a) whether it is a fact that about 64 posts out of 393 sanctioned posts of the Central
Pollution Control Board (CPCB) are vacant;
(b) the reasons for such large-scale vacancies in key technical and scientific positions; and
(c) the long-term steps proposed to fill these vacant posts and strengthen institutional
capacity for air pollution monitoring, regulation and enforcement?

(a) to (c): As on date, the total sanctioned posts of Scientific and Technical staff in Central
Pollution Control Board (CPCB) is 393 and out of which 353 i.e. 89.82% posts are filled.
The reasons of 10.18% vacant posts in technical and scientific positions are retirement,
resignation & creation of new posts. Under Mission Recruitment drive, Ministry is regularly
reviewing and monitoring the filling up of vacancies in all subordinate bodies including
CPCB.
