(a) the number of posts of veterinary officers are currently vacant in various States along with
the steps taken by the Government to fill them, particularly in Uttar Pradesh;
(b) whether the Government is aware that veterinary services in many States are being
affected due to lack of adequate human resources, leading to financial and practical difficulties
for animal husbandry farmers;
(c) whether the Government has formulated any national or State level schemes for quick
recruitment of vacant posts in various States; and
(d) whether any policy is likely to be implemented for creation of new posts and providing
employment to veterinary graduates?

(a) & (b) As received from the States/UTs, the details of sanctioned and vacant posts of
Veterinary doctors is placed as Annexure-I.
Animal Husbandry is State subject and the staffing of government hospitals is done by the
States depending on their requirement based on the parameters like geographical status, disease
epidemiology, animal profile etc. However, Department under Livestock Health & Disease
Control Program (LHDCP) provides financial support to States/UTs on sharing basis for the
delivery of veterinary healthcare services at farmer’s door step through Mobile Veterinary
Units (MVUs). Each MVU is manned by one veterinary doctor. The operational cost including
the salary, POL, medicines are also funded on sharing basis. Accordingly, as on date, total
4,019 MVUs are operational across 29 States/UTs, service of which is availed by needy
livestock farmers through a Toll-free call number 1962.
(c) and (d) Since Animal Husbandry is State subject; Central government has no policy for
creation of new posts for employment of Veterinarians in the state hospital. As per the
information received from States/UTs, respective State/UT takes action in regard to creation of
new posts and filling up of vacant posts as per their recruitment rule.Annexure-I
