PURANDESWARI: SHRI ARUN BHARTI: SHRI ATUL GARG: Will the Minister of RAILWAYS be pleased to state: (a) the total number of new Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat Express trains introduced/operationalized during 2025-26 are originating from or passing through Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh; (b) the details of the specific routes covered, the average daily occupancy rates and the total revenue generated by these premium train services in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh during the last one year; (c) the details of the central financial expenditure incurred on upgrading the maintenance depots and pit lines to service these advanced train sets in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh; (d) whether the Government has received reports of stone-pelting incidents or cattle run-overs affecting the punctuality and safety of the Vande Bharat trains in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh; and (e) the details of the physical security and track fencing measures being implemented by the Government along the vulnerable sections of the railway tracks in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh? ANSWER MINISTER OF RAILWAYS, INFORMATION & BROADCASTING AND ELECTRONICS & INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY (SHRI ASHWINI VAISHNAW) (a) to (e) As the Railway network straddles across State boundaries, trains are introduced, as per network requirement, across such boundaries. § Page 1 of 17However, Indian Railways is focussed on providing affordable, good quality services to all sections of society. Indian Railways, with a view to improve travel experience of the passengers, have introduced indigenously designed and manufactured Vande Bharat trains (Chair Car and Sleeper) and Amrit Bharat trains with modern coaches, advanced safety features and passenger amenities. These are aimed to improve travel experience of the passengers and set new benchmarks in terms of safe and comfortable journey. Two such trains have already been manufactured. After extensive trials, these trains have been introduced on Indian Railways. The First Vande Bharat Sleeper service viz. 27575/27576 Howrah - Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express has commenced regular operation w.e.f. 22.01.2026. These train sets have been provided with modern coaches having advanced safety features and passenger amenities like: ● Jerk-Free Semi permanent couplers and Anti Climbers. ● Fitted with KAVACH. ● Higher acceleration with design/operating speed of 180/160 KMPH. ● Crashworthy Design of Car body complying with EN standards. ● Fire barrier doors at the end of each coach for compliance of Fire Safety standards. ● Aerosol based fire detection and suppression system in electrical cabinets and lavatories. ● Regenerative braking system for energy efficiency. ● Air conditioning units provided with indigenously developed UV-C lamp based disinfection system for deactivating 99% harmful bacteria from conditioned air to improve the hygiene standards inside the passenger area. ● Centrally controlled Automatic Plug Doors and Fully Sealed wider gangways. Page 6 of 17● CCTVs in all coaches. ● Emergency talk-back unit for communication between Passenger and Train Manager/Loco Pilot in case of emergency. ● For Divyangjan passengers special lavatory in the driving coaches on each end. ● Centralized Coach Monitoring System for better condition monitoring of passenger amenities such as Air conditioning, Saloon Lighting etc. ● Ergonomically designed ladder for ease of climbing on to upper berths. As on 03.08.2026, the following 01 pairs of Vande Bharat trains (Sleeper Car) are being operated on the Indian Railways network: SN Train No. and Name 1 27575/27576 Howrah - Kamakhya Vande Bharat Sleeper Express Amrit Bharat service: To provide affordable means of transportation to the low and middle income families, Indian Railways have introduced Amrit Bharat services that are fully non-AC modern trains. The present composition of Amrit Bharat consists of 11 General Class coaches, 8 Sleeper Class coaches, 01 Pantry Car and 02 Luggage cum Divyangjan coaches. High Speed and enhanced Safety standards are the hallmarks of these trains with following enhanced features and amenities: ● Better aesthetics of seat and berths with enhanced look & feel on the lines of Vande Bharat Sleeper. ● Jerk Free Semi-Automatic Couplers. ● Improved Crashworthiness in coaches by provision of crash tube. ● Provision of CCTV system in all coaches. ● Improved designs of toilets. ● Improved design of Ladder for ease of climbing on to the berth. ● Improved LED Light fitting & Charging Sockets. Page 7 of 17● Provision of EP assisted braking system. ● Aerosol based fire suppression system in toilets and electrical cubicles. ● USB Type-A and Type-C mobile charging sockets. ● Emergency Talk Back system for two-way communication between Passenger and Guard/Train Manager. ● Non-AC pantry with enhanced heating capacity. ● Fully sealed gangways with quick release mechanism for easy attachment and detachment. Occupancy of Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat Express During 2025-26 & 2026-27 (upto June, 2026), the overall occupancy of all Vande Bharat Express and Amrit Bharat Express trains touching stations of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh is 99.78% & 112.11% respectively. Maintenance Depots and Pit-Lines Maintenance Depot/Pit-Line etc., facilities are planned and executed as per operational and maintenance requirement. Further, the modernization of maintenance depots/pit lines etc., on Indian Railways is a continuous and ongoing process and works in this regard are undertaken as per requirement, subject to inter-se priority and availability of funds. Security and Safety Legal action is taken against the offenders of stone pelting under the relevant provision of law. The following preventive measures are taken by the Railways to safeguard the lives of passengers and damage to Railway Property: I. Regular drives are conducted against anti-social elements like drunkard, mischievous elements etc. in the effected section/black spots and the apprehended persons are prosecuted under legal provisions of law. II. The train escorting parties have been sensitized to remain more vigilant in the vulnerable sections/spots, where incidents of vandalizing on trains are frequently reported. III. Various awareness programme including OPERATION SATHI are conducted regularly in inhabited areas adjacent to Railway track to Page 16 of 17sensitize people towards the menace of stone pelting and its consequences. IV. Detailed guidelines have been issued regarding action to be taken to control incidents of stone pelting on moving trains. Analysis of these incidents followed by substantive action is taken to curb these incidents. V. Regular co-ordination with GRP/Local Police is maintained by RPF, sharing the critical information to control the menace of pelting of stones on trains. VI. State Level Security Committee of Railways (SLSCR) have been constituted for all State Union Territories under the Chairmanship of respective Director General of Police Commissioner of States/Union Territories for regular monitoring and review of security arrangements of the Railways. Safety of train operations is accorded top priority on Indian Railways (IR). As one of the important safety measures, provision of safety fencing has been taken up on routes where the permitted speed of train operations exceeds 110 kmph, as well as at other vulnerable locations, to prevent trespassing and ensure safe train operation. Pedestrian subways are also being provided with safety fencing in order to facilitate crossing of railway alignment by cattle, pedestrians and smaller vehicles. Till date, about 19,700 km of fencing has been provided along the railway tracks in Indian Railways which includes sections situated in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. ***** Page 17 of 17
