VIGYAN JYOTI PROGRAMME

Will the Minister of SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY be pleased to state:
(a) the specific aims and objectives of the Vigyan Jyoti Programme;
(b) whether the Vigyan Jyoti Programme has been implemented in any
district of Uttar Pradesh including the district of Baghpat and if so, the
details thereof;
(c) the district-wise total number of girl students covered under this
programme in the identified districts of Uttar Pradesh including Baghpat;
(d) the details of the facilities and benefits being provided to these girl
students under the said scheme, district-wise; and
(e) the total budgetary allocation sanctioned for the Vigyan Jyoti
Programmme in the State of Uttar Pradesh and the mechanism established
for its distribution?

(a) The aim of the Vigyan Jyoti Programme is to promote gender parity in
Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and its
objectives are as given below:
To encourage and inspire girl students to pursue careers in Science,
Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
To enhance the participation of girls, particularly from
underrepresented regions, and promote gender equality in STEM
fields.
To provide students with exposure to diverse scientific and
technological career opportunities.
To foster interest in science through hands-on learning and
experiential activities.
To impart knowledge in collaboration with Knowledge Partners.
To build a supportive and enabling ecosystem that nurtures girl’s
academic growth from school through higher education.
(b) to (c): The Vigyan Jyoti Programme has been implemented in 26
districts of Uttar Pradesh and district-wise total number of girl students
covered under this programme including the Baghpat district is given below:

(d) The facilities and benefits provided to girl students under the Vigyan
Jyoti Programme, district-wise, include a range of targeted interventions
aimed at fostering a STEM-oriented mindset. These comprise student-parent
counselling, exposure visits to research laboratories and premier
educational and technological institutions such as IITs, NITs, and AIIMS,
interactions with role models and young innovators, organization of science
camps, provision of academic support classes, distribution of resource
materials, and activities related to coding and tinkering.
(e) The Department of Science & Technology sanctions/allocates funds to
Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS), an implementation partner which further
allocates funds to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Knowledge Centres
(KCs). The total budgetary allocation sanctioned for the state of Uttar
Pradesh amounts to Rs. 1682.25 Lakh.
