Violation of environmental regulations in Southern Gujarat
4375. SHRI SHAKTISINH GOHIL:
Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to
state:
(a) whether shrimp farms have been established in the Kadiyabid costal area of South
Gujarat in violation of the orders of the Green Tribunal and all environmental regulations;
and
(b) if so, the reasons therefor?
ANSWER

(a) & (b) As per the information furnished by the Government of Gujarat, no active shrimp
farming activities are presently being carried out in the said area. It has further been stated
that no permission has been granted by the Environment Department, Government of
Gujarat or by the office of the Commissioner of Fisheries, Government of Gujarat, for
establishment or operation of shrimp farms in the Kadiyabid area of Surat in violation of the
orders of the National Green Tribunal or applicable environmental regulations.
It is also submitted that the matter pertaining to alleged illegal shrimp farming is
presently sub judice before the Hon’ble National Green Tribunal (WZ) in Original
Application No. 87/2025 (earlier Original Application No. 305/2025 NGT (PB). The
directions of the Hon’ble Tribunal, in the matter are implemented from time to time.
