यत: संजर्धाि के अिुच्छ ेि 62 के खण्ड (1) के अिुसार, उिकी पिार्जध समाप् त होि े स े पूर्ा पिधारी राष्टर पजत की
पिार्जध समाप् त होिे के कारण उत् पन् ि होिे र्ाली ररजि को भरिे के जलए जिर्ााचि कराया िािा अपेजित ह;ै और
यत: राष्टर पतीय और उपराष्टर पतीय जिर्ााचि अजधजियम, 1952 (1952 का 31) की धारा 4 की उपधारा (3) के
अधीि, भारत जिर्ााचि आयोग द्वारा भार त के राष्टर पजत के पि को भरि े के जलए जिर्ााचि के जलए तारीख इस तरह जियत
की िािी अपेजित ह ै दक यह जिर्ााचि समय के अन् िर परू ा हो िाए तादक इस प्रकार जिर्ााजचत राष्टर पजत अपिा
पिभार र्र्ा 2022 की िलु ाई के पच् चीसर् दिि को ग्रहण कर सके।
अत: अब, भारत जिर्ााचि आयोग एतिद्वारा: –
अ) संजर्धाि के अिुच्छेि 54 म जिर्िष्टा जिर्ााचक मंडल स े यह अपेिा करता ह ै दक र्े संजर्धाि के प्रार्धािों के
अिुसार, राष्टर पतीय और उपराष्टर पतीय जिर्ााचि अजधजियम, 1952 (1952 का 31) और तिधीि बिाए गए
जियमों और उिके तहत िारी दकए गए आिेिों के उपबन्धों के अिुसार, र्तामाि राष्ट्रपजत की अर्जध खत्म होिे स े
पूर् ा भार त के राष्टर पजत के पि को भरिे के जलए एक व्यजि जिर्ााजचत कर ि; और
आ) उि अजधजियम ्की धारा 4 की उपधारा (1) के अिुसरण म जिम्नजलजखत जिधााररत करता ह:ै

ELECTION COMMISSION OF INDIA
NOTIFICATION
New Delhi, the 15th June, 2022
O.N. 40(E).— :- Whereas, the term of office of Shri Ram Nath Kovind, President of India, is due to
expire, in terms of clause (1) of Article 56 of the Constitution, on the 24th Day of July, 2022; and
Whereas, an election is due to be held, in terms of clause (1) of Article 62 of the Constitution, to fill
the vacancy to be caused by the expiration of the term of office of the incumbent President before the
expiration of term of his office; and
Whereas, under sub-section (3) of Section 4 of the Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act,
1952 (31 of 1952), the Election Commission of India is required to so appoint the dates for the election to
fill the vacancy in the office of the President of India that the election will be completed at such time as will
enable the President thereby elected to enter upon his/her office on the 25th Day of July, 2022;
Now, therefore, the Election Commission of India hereby –
(A) calls upon the Electoral College, referred to in Article 54 of the Constitution, to elect a person to fill
the above vacancy in the Office of President of India before the expiration of the term of the
incumbent President, in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution, the Presidential and
Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952 (31 of 1952), and the Rules and Orders made thereunder; and
(B) in pursuance of sub-section (1) of Section 4 of the said Act, appoints -
a) the 29th June, 2022 (Wednesday), as the last date for making nominations;
b) the 30th June, 2022 (Thursday), as the date for scrutiny of the nominations;
c) the 02nd July, 2022 (Saturday), as the last date for the withdrawal of candidatures; and
d) the 18th July, 2022 (Monday), as the date on which a poll shall, if necessary, be taken.
