As on date, redevelopment works had been completed at 261 railway stations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The scheme envisages the redevelopment of 1,340 railway stations across the country in a phased manner, with works at the remaining stations progressing at various stages. This is one of the largest station-modernisation programmes in the world with construction under way in various phases across the country. The scheme covers upgrades such as improved station buildings and waiting halls, wider foot-over-bridges and air concourses, better circulating and parking areas, Divyangjan-friendly access (ramps, tactile paths, lifts), modern signage and passenger-information systems, executive lounges, and, where feasible, sustainable and city-integrated design.
