**Summary of Progress of Area Coverage under Summer Crops (as of 08.05.2026)**
The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has released the progress report for summer crop area coverage as of May 8, 2026. The data, published by PIB Delhi on May 12, 2026, indicates an overall increase in the total area sown compared to the corresponding period in the previous year.
**Overall Progress**
The total area sown under summer crops for the current year (2026) stands at 83.08 lakh hectares, which is an increase from the 80.01 lakh hectares recorded during the same period in 2025. The normal summer area (based on the average from 2022-23 to 2024-25) is established at 75.37 lakh hectares.
**Crop-wise Coverage (in lakh hectares)**
* **Rice:** The current area coverage is 31.05 lakh hectares, slightly lower than the 32.42 lakh hectares recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.
* **Pulses:** Total coverage has increased to 24.97 lakh hectares from 23.76 lakh hectares in 2025.
* **Greengram:** 20.07 lakh hectares.
* **Blackgram:** 4.60 lakh hectares.
* **Other Pulses:** 0.30 lakh hectares.
* **Shree Anna cum Coarse Cereals:** This category saw a rise to 16.01 lakh hectares compared to 14.25 lakh hectares in 2025.
* **Maize:** 10.00 lakh hectares.
* **Bajra:** 5.40 lakh hectares.
* **Jowar:** 0.37 lakh hectares.
* **Ragi:** 0.22 lakh hectares.
* **Small Millets:** 0.03 lakh hectares.
* **Oilseeds:** Area coverage grew to 11.04 lakh hectares from 9.58 lakh hectares in 2025.
* **Groundnut:** 5.51 lakh hectares.
* **Sesamum:** 5.07 lakh hectares.
* **Sunflower:** 0.39 lakh hectares.
* **Other Oilseeds:** 0.07 lakh hectares.
