### Summary: Progress of Area Coverage under Summer Crops (as on 15.05.2026)

The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare has released the progress report for the sowing of summer crops as of May 15, 2026. The report compares current sowing data against the "Normal Summer Area" (average of 2022-23 to 2024-25) and the corresponding period of the previous year (2025).
#### **Overall Sowing Progress**
As of mid-May 2026, the total area sown under summer crops reached **83.08 lakh hectares**. This represents an increase compared to the 80.01 lakh hectares recorded during the same period in 2025 and significantly exceeds the normal summer area of 75.37 lakh hectares.
#### **Crop-Wise Breakdown**
* **Rice:** The current sown area stands at **31.05 lakh hectares**, which is slightly lower than the 32.42 lakh hectares recorded in 2025 and the normal area of 31.49 lakh hectares.
* **Pulses:** Total pulse cultivation covers **24.97 lakh hectares**, up from 23.76 lakh hectares in 2025.
* *Greengram:* 20.07 lakh hectares
* *Blackgram:* 4.60 lakh hectares
* *Other Pulses:* 0.30 lakh hectares
* **Shree Anna cum Coarse Cereals:** This category saw significant growth, reaching **16.01 lakh hectares**, compared to 14.25 lakh hectares in 2025.
* *Maize:* 10.00 lakh hectares
* *Bajra:* 5.40 lakh hectares
* *Jowar:* 0.37 lakh hectares
* *Ragi:* 0.22 lakh hectares
* *Small Millets:* 0.03 lakh hectares
* **Oilseeds:** Total area coverage reached **11.04 lakh hectares**, an increase from 9.58 lakh hectares in the previous year.
* *Groundnut:* 5.51 lakh hectares
* *Sesamum:* 5.07 lakh hectares
* *Sunflower:* 0.39 lakh hectares
* *Other Oilseeds:* 0.07 lakh hectares
