Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas PSU Oil Companies meet rising fuel demand across Maharashtra; Citizens advised against panic buying Adequate Stocks of Petrol, Diesel and LPG available across Maharashtra; Fuel supplies stable and uninterrupted प्रव तथ: 08 JUN 2026 5:54PM by PIB Mumbai Mumbai: 8 June 2026 Amid ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East impacting global supply chains, the Government of India, Government of Maharashtra and Public Sector Oil Marketing Companies (PSU OMCs) — BPCL, IOCL and HPCL — under the coordination of the State Level Coordinator (Oil Industry), Maharashtra, Shri Mihir Ganesh Joshi, have assured citizens that adequate stocks of Petrol, Diesel and LPG are available across Maharashtra and that fuel supplies continue to remain stable, closely monitored and uninterrupted. In May 2026, PSU Oil Companies recorded strong growth in fuel sales, with Petrol demand rising by 8.92% and Diesel demand by 20.1% compared to the corresponding period last year. During the month, a total of 568 TKL of Petrol and 1,157 TKL of Diesel were supplied across Maharashtra. The higher offtake of petroleum products in May 2026 was driven by seasonal agricultural activity across multiple districts and additional demand arising from the migration of customers from certain private retail outlets to PSU retail outlets owing to price differentials. There has also been a shift of some institutional and industrial consumers towards retail fuel outlets. Sales from certain private operators have correspondingly been diverted to nearby PSU OMC retail outlets. To prevent diversion, black marketing and hoarding of petroleum products, the Government of Maharashtra issued an Office Order dated 5 June 2026, advising all District Collectors to constitute vigilance/mobile teams at the district level and conduct inspections and raids under the provisions of the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. Daily enforcement drives are being conducted by State Government teams. Unauthorized stocks of Diesel and Petrol are being seized and FIRs lodged wherever necessary. As part of the enforcement drive, 756 raids have been conducted, resulting in 32 FIRs, 30 arrests, and seizure of 83,819 litres of Diesel and 4,709 litres of Petrol. Consumers requiring bulk quantities of Diesel have been advised to procure supplies only through the commercial/direct/industrial/bulk channels of IOCL, BPCL and HPCL. The first week of June 2026 has also witnessed strong growth in fuel sales. During the period 1–7 June 2026, PSU Oil Companies recorded 21.48% growth in Petrol sales and 10.3% growth in Diesel sales compared to the corresponding period last year. All PSU retail outlets are functioning efficiently and without disruption, except for isolated instances in certain hinterland locations where temporary demand-supply mismatches have been observed due to abnormal demand. Citizens across Maharashtra are requested not to resort to panic buying or hoarding of petroleum products. The Government of India, Government of Maharashtra and PSU Oil Companies are ensuring adequate and smooth fuel supplies to meet the needs of all consumers across the State.
