The Academy of Direct Taxes Regional Campus (NADT–RC), Mumbai, an ISO
9001:2015 accredited institution, successfully organised the Purple Fair today at the
Income Tax Office, Kautilya Bhawan, Mumbai. The event was conducted under the
Awareness Generation & Publicity Scheme of the Department of Empowerment of
Persons with Disabilities, Government of India, with the objective of reinforcing
inclusion, enabling accessibility and celebrating the achievements of Persons with
Disabilities (PwDs).Ms. Malathi R. Sridharan, Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, commended
NADT–RC Mumbai for cultivating an environment that supports diversity,
accessibility and equal participation, while inaugurating the event.Addressing the gathering, Shri Navneet Manohar, Principal ADG, NADT–RC Mumbai,
highlighted the vision behind the initiative and emphasised the crucial role of PwDs
in the Department. He reiterated the commitment to motivating and empowering
PwD personnel through continuous support, awareness, and opportunity building.
The fair showcased stalls run by PwD entrepreneurs and NGOs, featuring
handcrafted torans, spices, candles, accessories, utility products, travel bags, and
bakery items—reflecting skill, enterprise, and self-reliance. A short film titled “Hum
Kisi Se Kam Nahi,” featuring PwD officials of the Income Tax Department, was
screened and widely appreciated.
Cultural presentations by PwD officers, including group songs, a skit and a Ganpati
dance performance, were met with enthusiastic applause. In a curated session, Ms.
Sarika Jain, Joint Commissioner of Income Tax, along with select speakers, shared
personal journeys and highlighted the need for barrier-free infrastructure and equal
opportunities. Shri V.K. Tiwari, CCIT (Retd.), addressed participants, acknowledging
NADT–RC for providing a dignified platform to display talent, courage, and
resilience.
Sports activities witnessed spirited participation by PwD officers and officials. Prizes
were distributed to winners, while all performers were felicitated for their
contribution to the programme.
Anchored in the theme “Ability, Equality, Inclusivity,” the Purple Fair reflected the
Department’s ongoing efforts to nurture a work culture that celebrates dignity and
talent. The event marked a continued commitment towards capacity-building,
accessibility enhancement, and meaningful inclusion of PwDs within the Income Tax
Department and beyond.
