On December 4, 2025, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced amendments to the Gold Metal Loan (GML) Scheme.
The initial draft Reserve Bank of India (Gold Metal Loans) Directions, 2025, issued on September 29, 2025, sought stakeholder feedback to consolidate GML regulations, address regulatory gaps, expand the scheme's scope, and provide banks with more operational freedom. Feedback on the draft was reviewed and incorporated. The RBI has issued Amendment Directions, which include the Reserve Bank of India (Commercial Banks - Credit Facilities) Amendment Directions, 2025, and the Reserve Bank of India (Small Finance Banks - Credit Facilities) Amendment Directions, 2025. The annex provides a statement of feedback on the draft directions. These amendments aim to streamline regulations for domestic and exporter jewellers and develop a supervisory MIS on Gold Metal Loans.
