Regarding ban on Paraquat Dichloride herbicide, already
banned in 70+ countries
DR. KADIYAM KAVYA (WARANGAL): Thank you, Chairperson
Madam. I hail the women power for giving all the women MPs first
priority to speak their word during the ?Zero Hour?.
Paraquat Dichloride is an internationally recognised and most
acutely toxic herbicide used in agriculture. Even a minimum
exposure of that either through ingestion, inhalation or skin contact
can cause hazardous effects on human body including lung, kidney
and liver failure, and finally death.
The sad thing here is that there is no antidote for this
dangerous poison which is frequently used by the poor farmers. It
is also causing harm to the land, water and soil. Nearly 70
countries, including China, UK and others, have banned this drug.
I would request the hon. Agriculture Minister, and Chemical
and Fertilizers Minister to please ban this dangerous drug because
there is no coming back, and whoever is consuming this is finally
dying due to it. As the States have no power to permanently ban
this drug, I would request the Central Government to make a policy
and ban Paraquat Dichloride. Thank you so much.
