Regarding crop damage to farmers in Saurashtra & Gujarat
SHRI PARSHOTTAMBHAI RUPALA (RAJKOT): Hon?ble
Speaker Sir, I am grateful to you for giving me the opportunity to
raise a very important issue concerning farmers, an opportunity
that I might not have received even through the draw (lottery
system).
Hon?ble Speaker Sir, the monsoon has now become
completely unpredictable. The rain simply does not stop. This
season has become the first of its kind where, in a single year, the
farmers have been hit twice by unseasonal rains. In one single
season, farmers have faced hardship twice.
During the monsoon, there was heavy flooding. Farmers
somehow managed to survive it, and since the rainfall was
otherwise good, they worked hard on their winter crops. However,
two days ago when it rained, the wheat got drenched, the gram
(chickpea) got drenched, and the winds were so strong that all the
mango blossoms were blown away. A situation has arisen where
even the famous Kesar mangoes may not be available.
Therefore, through you, Hon?ble Speaker, I request that the
losses suffered by farmers in Saurashtra and across Gujarat due to
unseasonal rains be brought to the attention of the Hon?ble Union
Agriculture Minister. I urge that, in consultation with the State
Government, assistance be provided to farmers who have endured
this double blow within a single year.
Thank you.
