Regarding demand for high-level environmental inquiry into
irregularities in Chandrapur power station
SHRIMATI PRATIBHA SURESH DHANORKAR
(CHANDRAPUR): Today, I stand here representing a district that,
while illuminating the state and the nation, itself struggles amidst
darkness and pollution. The power station in Chandrapur has
emerged as an engine of energy; yet today, this very facility has
become a death trap for the common citizens. Many of the power
generation units here have aged and have reached the end of their
operational lifespan; consequently, air and water pollution has
surged to levels far exceeding permissible limits. Citizens are
suffering from respiratory ailments, and the health of young
children is gravely at risk. Local agricultural land has been
rendered barren due to fly ash deposits, making it impossible to
derive any yield from it. I urge you to constitute an urgent,
high-level committee to conduct an environmental inquiry into this
project. Those power generation units that are no longer compliant
with regulations must be decommissioned and replaced with
modern, state-of-the-art units.
Chandrapur has provided electricity to the nation; it is now my
expectation that the Central Government, in return, provides
Chandrapur with clean air.
