Regarding drug influx into Mumbai via sea/road routes SHRI RAVINDRA DATTARAM WAIKAR (MUMBAI NORTH-WEST): Thank you, Hon. Speaker. Today, you stated that it is permissible for everyone in this House to speak in their own respective languages. The reorganization of states on a linguistic basis took place, and accordingly, Marathi is spoken in Maharashtra. I wish to express my gratitude to you for granting me the opportunity to speak in Marathi today, and for encouraging everyone to address the House in their own mother tongues. Hon. Speaker, the state of Maharashtra possesses a coastline stretching over 720 kilometers. The city of Mumbai is situated along this very 720-kilometer coastline. Drugs are entering Mumbai in alarming quantities, and this influx is having a detrimental impact on the city's youth. Consequently, across India, two people lose their lives every single day due to drug overdoses. It is imperative that strict action be taken to address this issue. We must investigate the source of these drugs?whether they are entering via sea routes or road networks?and take decisive measures against them. It is absolutely essential to initiate rigorous enforcement actions against all drug peddlers, thereby ensuring that they do not dare to engage in such activities in the future. Furthermore, the government should allocate funds to admit drug-addicted youth into rehabilitation centers and cover the costs of their treatment. In my constituency?the North-West region?specifically in areas such as Jogeshwari, Goregaon, and Powai, drugs are circulating in large volumes. Therefore, I urge the authorities to exercise heightened vigilance in these areas and take immediate, decisive action against the drug mafia. Thank you, Sir.
