Regarding hike in prices of LPG cylinder and its impact on
domestic households and commercial establishments in the
country-Laid
SHRI ANTO ANTONY (PATHANAMTHITTA): I would like to draw
the attention of the Government towards the recent increase in the
price of LPG cylinders across the country. The price of the 14.2 kg
(cid:110)
domestic LPG cylinder has been increased by 60, while the 19 kg
(cid:110)
commercial LPG cylinder has been increased by 144 in many
cities. This increase has created a serious burden on common
people. LPG is an essential item used for cooking in almost every
household. When its price increases, it directly affects the daily
expenses of families, especially the middle-class and poor
households. The increase in the price of commercial LPG
cylinders is also affecting small businesses such as restaurants,
hotels, and small food stalls. Many of these establishments depend
entirely on LPG for their daily work. The price hike is forcing them
to either increase food prices or reduce their operations. It is also
reported that this is the second increase in LPG prices within the
last eleven months, which has further increased the financial
pressure on people. Therefore, I urge the Government to review
this price hike and take necessary steps to provide relief to
households and small businesses.
