Regarding Need for construction of barrage or check dam on
Udanti River in Sinapali Block of Khariar in Kalahandi
Parliamentary Constituency, Odisha-laid
SHRIMATI MALVIKA DEVI (KALAHANDI): I would like to urge the
Hon?ble Minister of Jal Shakti to kindly consider the construction of
a barrage/check dam on the Udanti River in Sinapali Block of
Khariar Assembly Constituency in Kalahandi, my Parliamentary
Constituency. This is a long-pending and genuine demand of the
people of Khariar. The region was once infamously known as one
of the poorest and most drought-prone areas of the country. Even
today, a large section of the population depends solely on rain-fed
agriculture, making their livelihoods extremely vulnerable. The
construction of this barrage will ensure water security, provide
assured irrigation, and significantly improve agricultural
productivity. It will directly benefit the poorest sections of Odisha,
enable farmers to earn a sustainable livelihood, and contribute to
overall socio-economic development of the region. I earnestly urge
the Hon?ble Minister to kindly look into this matter on priority and
sanction the barrage/check dam at the earliest in the interest of the
people.
