Regarding need for stringent and coordinated measures to curb the growing menace of human trafficking in Assam and North-Eastern states-Laid SHRI PRADYUT BORDOLOI (NAGAON): As per the last available NCRB report, 2,250 cases of human trafficking were registered in 2022, involving 6,036 victims including 2,878 children. Despite arresting 5,864 persons, only 204 persons were convicted for trafficking in 2022. There have been no convictions in the North-Eastern states from 2020 to 2022. India fails to meet the minimum standards for eliminating trafficking and the cases of missing children from Assam tea gardens have nearly doubled. The Sashastra Seema Bal helpline remains unresponsive. Anti-Human Trafficking Units continue to operate with inadequate manpower. No measures have been taken to further the UN's mandate of educating and employing victims. Rescue operations are conducted without effective planning. The rescue strategies are not victim-friendly. The legal loopholes and implementation failures are persistent and unacceptable. I, thus, urge the Government to take inter-Ministerial action and ensure that the NCRB reports are published promptly.
