Regarding need to develop infrastructure of the Government College of Music and Dance at Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh-Laid SHRI APPALANAIDU KALISETTI (VIZIANAGARAM): I wish to draw the attention of the Government to the urgent need for strengthening the infrastructure of the Government College of Music and Dance, Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh. Established on 5 February 1919 by the rulers of the Vizianagaram Samsthanam, it is the first music school in South India and a pioneering institution in the cultural history of our nation. For over a century, it has produced eminent musicians, scholars, dancers, and teachers who have contributed significantly to cinema, classical arts, and cultural heritage. Legendary figures such as Saluri Rajeswara Rao, Ghantasala, Suseela, Sangita Kalanidhi Nedunuri Krishnamurthy, and many others received training here. The college, which celebrated its centenary in 2019, now faces severe infrastructural deterioration. Immediate repairs to classrooms, modernization of the auditorium, and the construction of a building for the Alumni Association?comprising members in India and abroad?are urgently required. I urge the Government to take necessary steps to restore this historic institution to its rightful glory and ensure its continued service to Indian culture and the arts.
