Regarding need to enhance the financial assistance and
revise the unit cost of fishing infrastructure to address the
problems being faced by fishermen of Machilipatnam, Andhra
Pradesh-Laid
SHRI BALASHOWRY VALLABHANENI (MACHILIPATNAM): PM
made a strong statement from Red Fort that he would stand tall like
wall to protect interests of farmers, fishermen and cattle rearers
and do everything for their livelihood, welfare and wellbeing. I
represent Machilipatanam, which consist 20-22 lakh population,
and is known for boat building, having huge fishermen and is
known for shrimp and seafood export. But, fishermen of
Machilipatnam are facing problems relating to boat building, fishing
nets, subsidy given to fishermen, etc. Hence, I request the Minister
of fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying to enhance small
boats unit cost from Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs 7.5 lakhs since unit cost was
revised six years ago; cost of fishing net has gone up and there is
need to increase the cost from Rs.70,000 to Rs.1 lakh; and
increase engine cost for boats from Rs.1.35 lakhs to Rs.2 lakhs for
welfare and wellbeing of fishermen community of Machilipatanam
of Andhra Pradesh.
