Regarding need to ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity
during harvesting season in rural areas of Bundelkhand
region, Uttar Pradesh-Laid
SHRI ANURAG SHARMA (JHANSI): I wish to draw the attention
of the Government to an important issue concerning farmers in
Uttar Pradesh, particularly in the Bundelkhand region comprising
Jhansi, Lalitpur, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Banda and
Chitrakoot. At present, major rabi crops such as wheat, barley,
gram, mustard, peas and lentils are ready for harvest, and the
months of March and April mark the peak harvesting season.
During this period, farmers work tirelessly day and night to harvest
and secure their produce after months of hard work. The
Bundelkhand region has historically faced challenges such as low
rainfall, recurring droughts and limited irrigation facilities. In such
circumstances, reliable electricity supply becomes a critical
requirement for agricultural activities. Farmers require
uninterrupted electricity for final irrigation of fields, operation of
threshers and other agricultural machinery, and for post-harvest
activities such as cleaning, drying and storage of grains. Any
disruption in power supply during this crucial period can result in
serious losses and affect the livelihoods of farmers. I therefore
urge the Government to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in
rural areas during the harvesting season, particularly in
Bundelkhand, and to direct the concerned authorities to give
priority to agricultural feeders, quick repair of faults and timely
replacement of damaged transformers so that farmers? produce
and livelihoods are adequately protected.
