Regarding need to expedite implementation of In-stream
Storage Structure (ISS) on Mahanadi River near Godhaneswar
village in Subarnapur district, Odisha-Laid
SHRIMATI SANGEETA KUMARI SINGH DEO (BOLANGIR): I
wish to draw attention of the Government towards a matter of
urgent public importance regarding the early implementation of the
Godhaneswar In-Stream Storage Structure (ISS) across the
Mahanadi River near Godhaneswar village in Birmaharajpur Block
of Subarnapur district. As per the DPR, the project with an
(cid:110)
estimated cost of 1024.81 crore is expected to benefit nearly 1.78
lakh people in 30 villages of Birmaharajpur Block and 22 villages of
Boudh district. The project will significantly strengthen irrigation
facilities, improve drinking water availability, promote fisheries, and
create new opportunities for tourism in the lower reaches of the
Mahanadi basin. After completion of this project, water will be
available in the stretches of the Mahanadi River and Tel River for
nearly 10 kilometres even during the summer season, which will
greatly benefit the people of Birmaharajpur Block, Ulunda Block,
Sonepur Block and Sonepur Municipality. However, despite its
importance, the earlier tender process initiated before the elections
was cancelled and the project has remained pending. I therefore
urge the Government to expedite the finalization of the revised
DPR and initiate the tender process at the earliest, so that this vital
project can be implemented without further delay for the benefit of
the people of the region.
